Anyone doing laser engraving?

I have a friend wanting to engrave some text on a cutting board. Is anyone available to take on this type of work?

I have both 10 watt and 40 watt diode machines. Roughly 18 x 30 inch capacity.
Depending on the type of wood it is not a big deal, but some grain burns easier than others in the same board leaving uneven artwork. I would need a small piece to test before going to the real piece. Happy to help. We can make an appointment and do it on the spot. Laser time is $45 hr and I generally charge a $20 set up fee, but if the work is real simple I will forgo that

I uploaded the business card. My time is pretty open.

Thanks @Nikonbill for the prompt response. Rates are very reasonable.

We’re still discussing options, I’ll let you know shortly. If we move ahead it will happen in the next week.

Where are you located?

Located in Seattle and SeaTac.

@Nikonbill one of the problems here is (as you might imagine) the slab is not super flat. I’m measuring about 3/16 from highest to lowest spot.

How tolerant is the laser to that kind of variation in height?

Arlington, Smokey Point area

To be honest I am not sure. It will depend on the wood and at some level on the design. I have a thickness planer and a drum sander, so I am pretty sure we can make it work. If the slab is pretty thin we can attach it to a thicker piece and make it work. I am happy to help you work it out and I don’t charge members for that kind of thing. I have received way too much help from all of you not to give a little help to someone else. Let me know.

@Nikonbill I very much appreciate your time and info on this. We’ll need to handle it locally however; a trip to Arlington won’t fit in the schedule. I’ll keep your card handy for next time.

No problem, a 2 hour trip across Seattle traffic is more than I would want as well. I hope everything works out well.
