Cowboy hat

I’m kicking myself for not using the maple I got for free 2 years ago sooner. To bring “something made out of wood" to the Skagit expo, I borrowed a chainsaw and started making a hat, but couldn’t get a big enough not-rotten part from the maple. I used a cedar block instead.

I’m thinking to make Rocky from Project Hail Mary with the maple, when I have time  It’s too pretty to give up.

Tools used:

16" chainsaw

Angle grinder

Oscillating saw

Dremel

Orbital sander

When you came over to the booth at the Skagit Wood Expo, we all thought it was a leather hat until you took it off and put it down on the table :joy:

This was a very ambitious project to take on as your first chainsaw carving project, and you pulled it off!

Wow! That’s some really fine detail, and the grain looks great.
