Wood id

An acquaintance of mine has offered me a wood plank approx. 7ft x 8" x 3"
He said that he bought it in Mexico many years ago. He said it is called Madera. I can’t find that name anywhere on line even trying various spellings. I have to drive a good distance to pick this up so I was trying to figure out if it was worth my time. Does anyone have any clues about what the name might be, something close to Madera or a spanish translation. I will probably go get it just out of curiosity, but I was hoping for a clue.

Thanks,
Bill

Another link that may be of a lot of use to you…
BTW…
Madera is Spanish for lumber…

Stick,
Thank you so much for the info. The last btw is by far the most explanatory. The guy that is giving me the wood very likely bought a nice looking piece in Mexico and misunderstood when the salesperson called it madera. This is really really funny if you knew the person involved. I now no longer care what type of wood it really is, the story has made it priceless.
Thanks again,
Bill

If you do end up picking it up, I myself (and probably others on the forum) would like a pic so we could perhaps guess just what it is.

Absolutely, we all need a little closure. I am still smiling about this.
