I have never seen a spade bit like that before, He must have taken a 1" or larger and ground the bevel on each side.

the stacked design let me use smaller pieces of sheet goods…
the open area to the left is for miter knife, Leigh’s D4 and their FMT… Everything work surface wise is coplaner…
the right side has a flip up table extension…

or you haven’t a vise and having one would be soooo nice…
you like doing dovetails??? these vises are the cat’s meow…
a Moxon bench-top auxiliary vise just may be what is called for…

the top glue ups, butcher block style, make for more stable panels and require only pieces… and you get to use up more of your small piece stash…
spline the joints for strength and surface alignment… if you haven’t a thickness planer this will go a long ways w/ initial panel flatness that should only need hand plane touch up…
these vise come in a lot of variations using simplified hardware or if you prefer - exotic…
all thread or carriage bolts, extra large wing nuts, bushings and fender washers - they all work just fine…
here’s one made from OTC constriction lumber…
Tip…
install fitted bushings (aka sleeve bearings) in the rod holes of the sliding faces, makes for a much easier to use longer lasting better performing vise…

That reminds me of the machinists’/ tool and die makers tool box. When I worked at Boeing in the late 50’s in the tooling shops all the old timers had one similar to those.
